History of "Magnifica Comunità di Fiemme"

There is no doubt that the Val di Fiemme has been inhabited since the earliest times, as confirmed by respected scholars and researchers, of whom a special mention should go to Professor Piero Leonardi of the University of Ferrara for his long and learned work on the subject.
In 1111 A.D., Bishop Gebardo and the people of the valley signed the famous "Patti Ghebardini", a series of pacts which limited but did not entirely abolish the independence of the people of Fiemme and which established their rights.
It can be said that the official history of the Magnifica Comunità starts in this year.
Its rights were confirmed by the "Privilegio Enriciano", signed by Bishop Enrico III of Metz in 1314, and by subsequent episcopal documents.

In the fourteenth century, the early palace was built and was then restored and transformed into a luxurious summer residence.
The history of the Magnifica Comunità continues, not without troubles, up to the Napoleonic period (the French reached Predazzo) and to the government of the Bavarians, who, in 1807, more or less abolished the Comunità 's administration, replacing the ancient "Regole" (villages) with the "Municipalities".
After the fall of Napoleon at Waterloo and the Congress of Vienna, the valley became Austrian until 1918 when, after the First World War, it was handed over, with Trentino, to Italy.
