Richard Lees lute-maker

The spruce Abete Fiemme reveals its sound and acoustic properties in lute making as well.

Prof. John Schneiderman, head of lute and guitar studies at the University of California, has expressed his judgement on a baroque lute of Richard Lees ,lute maker from Los Angeles .
He felt the sound to be so rich as compared to normal instruments and this is due to the wonderful soundboards from Ciresa.

The instrument projects extremely well,is lively and speaks quickly. As time has progressed,in addition of the richness,he has found that the lute continues to intrigue him in terms of its pallete of colours, its depth and sustain.
He also noted that it would be an excellent instrument for recording as well as for concert.

Mr. R.Lees, the lute maker, says :" what is interesting to me is that there is actually a reasonable amount of wood in the top , it is not particularly thin-median in fact for one based on a JC Hoffman design as this one is.
I attribute this quality entirely to the Ciresa top I employed in this instrument as fond as I am of its stiffness, lightness and elasticity .It is also a beautiful top too.
Everytime I make a new instrument I find the consistancy of Fiemme spruce tops astonishing.
